Introduction
Welcome to 7th grade Applied Technology! This year we will study and experience how technology plays an important role in our lives. Through the use of computers, robots, and everyday household items we will solve problems and create new solutions. There will be a heavy emphasis on using the “problem solving strategy” (think scientific method) to work through challenges that we encounter.
In this Class:
• We will use knowledge from science, math, science, social studies, and the arts to solve problems
• We will design, invent, and make things based on our creative ideas
• We will discover how products of technology have helped make our lives easier
• We will be able to see how technology has changed through time
• We will be able to understand the newest uses of technology
• We will be able to think through a problem and use the tools of technology to solve it
• We will be able to decide whether a specific technology is good or bad for people or for the environment
Class Materials
Please have a folder or three ring binder. You will use this to keep handouts and assignments. Please always bring a pen or pencil. You will be required to take photos of your projects throughout the school year. If you have access to a digital camera or cell phone that takes pictures you may bring it to class. If you do not have access to a camera, no problem! I have some cameras that you can use. I will do my best to let you know when we will be using cameras so you can plan to bring one in if you like.
Grading
In this class all points are deemed equal. Thus, a homework point has the same weight as a test or a quiz point. To figure your grade, I will add up all of the points you have earned, and divide them by the number of points possible.
Late Or Absent Assignments/Assessments
It is YOUR responsibility to have work turned in on time, make up any missed assignments, and contact me following absences to obtain any missed assignments. A zero will be put in the grade book until assignments, quizzes, and tests are completed. I expect that all assignments will be turned in on time! Partial credit will be given for assignments that are turned in late.
Class Rules
It is very simple to follow the rules in this class. Please remember to be courteous when other people like your teacher and fellow classmates are talking. Please remember to be respectful to classroom furniture/supplies and your classmate's stuff. And finally, please bring an attitude that has a willingness to try every day.
*If a behavior problem does occur, and we cannot solve together, then school handbook policy will be followed.
